Your tattoo will be protected with a combination of vaseline and saran wrap or gauze pad(s). Leave this bandage on for a maximum of two hours.
Before bandage removal, wash your hands with water and soap. Then gently wash the tattoo with warm water and antibacterial soap. Pat your skin dry with a soft cloth. It's best at this point to simply let your tattoo breathe for a while. You can apply a layer of aquaphor or A+D ointment before bed the first night. Continue to use aquaphor for the following two days, very minimally, on top of washing the tattoo with antibacterial soap. After the first two days, you can switch out aquaphor for lubriderm or cetaphil (unscented, basic lotions) to provide your tattoo with the moisture it requires while also allowing it to breathe. Its normal for your skin to become itchy after a week as it regenerates - please do not pick or scratch it as this affects the outcome of the tattoo once healed. If needed, you can simply slap the area to achieve a similar relief to itching without it aggressively affecting your skin. You will know that your tattoo is fully healed when your skin is smooth to the touch - typically within 2 weeks.
